Innovative Minds Showcase Groundbreaking Projects at 1st CPE Design Project Presentations

University of the Cordilleras, July 6, 2023 – Graduating Computer Engineering students presented their innovative research and design projects at the First CPE Design Project Presentation and Exhibit. The event highlighted the remarkable talent of these students, who have spent their academic careers honing skills that promise to make significant impacts in various fields.

The exhibition featured an impressive array of projects, each one a testament to the ingenuity and hard work of the students. Among the standout presentations was Diana Jane DJ Santiago’s Carabao Mango Leaf Disease Classification System, which utilizes Vision Transformer (VIT) technology to diagnose diseases, offering a vital tool for local farmers. This project, alongside others like the Payment System Using Modern Contactless Technology by David Johnson Dancel and Van Xavier Micklay, showcases the students’ commitment to addressing real-world challenges with modern solutions.

Other notable projects included an Entry System to the University Campus designed to comply with limited face-to-face requirements by Mark Jayson L. Mayo and his team, and a Microcontroller-Based Hot Wire Cutting Machine created by Bradley S. Mina III and Kate Alexa B. Ubasa, demonstrating the innovative spirit of the engineering department.

Further enhancing the event, students presented systems such as the IOT-Based Modern Jitney Monitoring and Tracking System aimed at supporting Baguio City’s Smart City Project, and a Smart Greenhouse for Chinese Pechay Farming, both reflecting the university’s dedication to sustainability and technological advancement.

The presentations concluded with a series of enlightening technical seminars. Dr. Sammy V. Militante, Director for Statistical & Knowledge at the Management Center from the University of Antique, captivated the audience with insights on the significance of disseminating research findings to international platforms. He emphasized the importance of sharing knowledge globally, inspiring students to think beyond local boundaries.

Adding to the inspiration, Mr. Noriel Ramos, a Senior TESDA Specialist, engaged the audience with his discussion on prototyping in design thinking. His mantra, “In prototyping, don’t be afraid to fail,” resonated deeply, encouraging students to embrace the iterative nature of innovation.

The 1st CPE Design Project Presentations were not just a showcase of technical skills but also a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the bright futures of the participating students. As they prepare to step into the professional world, the university community is excited to see how these innovative ideas will shape industries and communities alike. With events like this, the University of the Cordilleras continues to reinforce its position as a leader in fostering future-ready engineers.
