MSGeoDRR Program Strengthens Global Collaboration in Disaster Resilience

The University of the Cordilleras (UC) has reached another significant milestone in its pursuit of academic excellence and sustainability-driven education with the approval of its Master of Science in Geomatics for Disaster Risk Reduction (MSGeoDRR) by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The program reflects UC’s continuing commitment to strengthening higher education’s role in addressing complex environmental challenges through science, innovation, and collaboration.

The MSGeoDRR program integrates geospatial technology, data analytics, and disaster risk governance, preparing professionals to analyze and mitigate the growing impacts of natural hazards and climate change. The CHED approval affirms the program’s national relevance and global competitiveness, positioning UC as a leader in developing transdisciplinary approaches to disaster resilience education.

International cooperation has played a central role in the program’s development and implementation. On January 25–26, 2024, UC representatives participated in the Project Manager’s Meeting at Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City, where project leaders and partner institutions convened to assess progress, share best practices, and discuss strategies for long-term program sustainability. The gathering underscored the importance of collaborative frameworks in advancing locally grounded yet globally informed academic initiatives.

UC’s international engagement expanded further when it joined the Final Conference at Universiti Utara Malaysia (Kedah, Malaysia) on October 7–8, 2024. The conference gathered scholars, policymakers, and disaster risk reduction (DRR) experts across Asia to present innovations in geo-disaster management, sustainable development, and academic cooperation. UC’s active participation strengthened its research linkages and reaffirmed its contribution to the growing network of higher education institutions advancing global resilience.
