Among 67 participating teams representing eight schools and universities in Baguio, Team Jarveys of the University of the Cordilleras not only reached the Top 10 finalists but also secured the 1st place winner in the Baguio Smart City Challenge 2024, held on December 11, 2024 at the Baguio Convention Center. The University of the Cordilleras stood out among competitors with three qualifying entries in the Top 10, showcasing its commitment to innovation and excellence.

The team, consisting of Junyl JB Gonzales, Harvey Basinga, Jamasia Elopre, and Louwen Kate Esway, presented an innovative project titled ‘Smart Piezo Walkways: A Gamified Walking Experience,’ guided by their adviser, Engr. Maria Victoria Castillo. Their system generates energy from footsteps and includes a gamified reward feature, allowing users to earn points for each step they take. This proposal promotes physical activity and encourages sustainable practices in urban spaces.

This groundbreaking innovation not only impressed the judges but also demonstrated the transformative potential of technology in enhancing urban living.

Congratulations to Team Jarveys for their remarkable achievement and for setting a new standard for smart city innovations!
