Marco Polo Ortigas – The University of the Cordilleras (UC) was recognized for its contributions to the Promotion of Low Carbon Urban Transport Systems (LCT) Project in the Philippines, a sustainability-focused initiative led by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and UNDP Philippines, with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). During a recent sustainability workshop, the project’s achievements were celebrated, emphasizing the importance of continued efforts for sustainable transport. The recognition award was accepted by CEA Dean, Engr. Dexter Hansel C. Apnoyan, and ECE Program Chair, Engr. Michael James Deus on November 13, 2023.
The LCT Project aims to transform urban mobility in the Philippines by promoting environmentally friendly, efficient, and inclusive transport systems. UC, alongside Saint Louis University and the University of Baguio, played a vital role through research, training, and capacity-building, fostering awareness and education on sustainable transport in the Cordillera region. Cities like Baguio, Iloilo, Pasig, and Sta. Rosa were also honored for piloting these initiatives, becoming models for low-carbon urban mobility.
With the project’s completion, stakeholders are committed to maintaining progress, and UC plans to persist in its advocacy for sustainable transport, contributing to shaping future policies and nurturing experts to advance urban mobility solutions in the Philippines.
